Congratulations to Darra McMahon of 6th Year who was successful in securing a place with 12 other students from around Ireland to travel to Hong Kong in August as part of an EIL Intercultural Learning initiative.

Congratulations also to Linda O'Leary, Cladia Malocca and Linda Becere from our current International travel Studies course who have obtained the position of Cabin Crew with Ryanair and are starting their 6 week training with the airline on May 11th. Linda O'Leary, a second-level past pupil of EVC, will be based in Dublin, Claudia in Brussels and Linda Becere is also currently awaiting a response from Quatar Airways.
Congratulations also to Kerti Torn, from our 2007/08 course, who has been promoted to Number Two position with Monarch Airlines. Kerti is based in Dublin.

Scholarships
Congratulations to Alan Davis and Patrick Higgins on the award of Academic Scholarships by the Institute of Technology Carlow for achieving the highest Leaving Certificate/FETAC points score per course for 2009/10.
Alan is studying for a Bachelor of Science in Construction - Architectural Technology and Patrick is studying for a Higher Certificate in Science - Construction Architectural Graphics.
Well done to both and their teacher Mr. Connolly.

Engineering Award
Congratulations to Christina Murphy who was presented with an Award for receiving the highest mark for a female student in the Leaving Certificate Ordinary level examination 2009. This prestigious award was presented to Christina at a ceremony in Limerick Institute of Technology by the Engineering Teachers' Association of Ireland. Seamus Murphy, Principal, Keith Whelan, Engineering Teacher and her parents accompanied Christina on the day.

Kiltealy Gambia Project
On Saturday &th November 2009, 8 students and 2 teachers from EVC travelled to Gambia to be present at the opening of a new school which they partly funded through their hard work over the past 18 months. The group exceeded their own expectations by raising €16,000 which was put to good use by funding furniture for the classrooms.
Students Jack Baker, Aileen Doran, Greg McDonald, Molly Rath, Jamie Dunne, Rachel Murphy, Ian Sinnott, Laura Lee Hatton were accompanied by teachers Michael Devereux and Jessica Doyle, along with members of the Kiltealy Gambia Project.

Meteor Awards
Congratulations to our former student Wallis Bird who won a coveted Meteor Ireland Music Award for Best Hope for 2009. Wallis completed our Performing Arts Music course in 2002-03. She is a unique and very talented performer and we would like to wish her all the best for the future. Wallis is currently recording her 2nd album and Anita & all her tutors especially offer their congratulations and are waiting in anticipation of the new release.

Advanced Entry to WIT
Our college of Further Education has agreed improved links with Waterford Institute of Technology for the following courses: Science, Business,Childcare & Social Care.
Students may gain access into second year of a relevant degree course and complete their degree in three years, provided they satisfy the following requirements: achieve at least an overall merit award in the FETAC Level 5 course, complete a personal portfolio followed by interview and assessment.

CITY AND GUILDS AWARDS - Medals for Excellence
Michelle Armstrong Award winning hairdressing student at Enniscorthy Vocational College of Further Education Student Hair Academy was one of nine recipients and the only student from the south to receive a highly commended award from City & Guilds on the day. From Ballypreacus Bunclody, Michelle completed her two year hairdressing programme at Enniscorthy Vocational College and is currently working in Monica's Hair Salon, Slaney Street, Enniscorthy. Out of 20,000 students all over the world City & Guilds present 250 awards, nine of them in Ireland, Michelle being the only republic of Ireland winner of this Highly prestigious accolade.
Enniscorthy Vocational College of Further Education Hairdressing Training Sector has been recognized by City & Guilds as a Centre of Excellence for two years running.
Sir Reg Empey Northern Ireland Minister for Employment and Learning, presented the awards at the ceremony held at Montgomery House Belfast last Wednesday 4th March. Well done to Michelle and her teachers Mary Ivers and Jacinta Morris of Student Hair Academy Enniscorthy Vocational College.
