Our Annual Third Year Triathlon Challenge has been running for the last number of weeks in PE classes. Students competed in 1000m Row, 3000m Cycle and 1000m Run, selecting one event each week and then accumulating their times. Every week the competition between students increased seeing ever faster times. Jack Walsh (3 Alder) and Shauna Devaney (3 Ash) were the fastest boy and girl overall in third year.
The fastest nine boys and girls went on to compete in the Head to Head Triathlon on Wednesday morning in the Fitness Suite. There was huge excitement and competition between the finalists.
The finals ran off in a series of Heats, with each competitor putting a massive effort in to complete the to 500 m Row 1500 m Cycle and 800 m run. The cheers and support the students gave each other were outstanding. In the end Jack Walsh managed to achieve the double victory, in a time of 7.19, just beating Reece Dobbs (3 Birch) into 2nd with Dylan House (3Ash) coming 3rd.
The 3 Ash girls made a clean sweep with Ríannon Tinney winning the girls event in a great time of 8.56, Shauna Devaney taking 2nd, and Laura Byrne finishing third by just one second!
It was a fantastic competition seeing students push themselves beyond what they thought they could do. Many thanks to Paddy Rossiter for the posting and recording the students’ times, which absolutely encouraged and motivated the students, and also to Management for supporting the event and organising the medals.
