Farewell to our Cello and Double Bass Teacher

The management and staff at EVC made a presentation to Olwen Sheil on Friday 1st June in recognition of the many years of loyal service she gave to both the students and the school.

Olwen began teaching cello in EVC in September 2004. She prepared cello and double bass students for Junior and Leaving Cert Practical Exams, Royal Irish Academy Grade exams, performances with the orchestra here in the college and outside the school. Olwen's EVC cello and double bass students have gone on to perform in Wexford Opera House, Co. Cork ETB Friendship Concerts, the National Concert Hall, Prague International Festival of Youth Orchestras and Bergamo Youth Orchestra Festival, Italy. She has been a vital part of orchestral development in the school, giving freely of her time and invaluable expertise. All her students were encouraged to achieve their full potential and the music department are also indebted to her for the beautiful performances she gave, demonstrating her mastery of the instrument. Olwen retired from EVC in July 2017 and was wished good health and enjoyment in the years ahead.
