Students of Enniscorthy Vocational College have responded to Dublin Zoo's recent nationwide fundraising appeal with vigour. The Student Council organised a fundraiser whereby all students were encouraged to contribute whatever they could, big or small, to help cover the astronomical feedings costs faced by the zoo. The generosity of our students saw a total of €407 raised. The total sum raised was then used to adopt animals on behalf of each year group. All students cast their vote to have their say as to which animals they would like to adopt, with the following animals topping the polls. First years adopted an orangutan, second years, a penguin, third years, a wolf, fifth years a gorilla and sixth years, a snow leopard. In addition, a red panda, an elephant and a lion were also adopted. It is hoped that when Covid restrictions lift fully students can travel to the zoo to meet their adoptees in person. Thanks to Ms. Helen O’Brien for organising the initiative and supporting students in their endeavours.
