Active school week took place from the 11th to the 15th December. The idea behind this initiative was to promote physical activity and well-being amongst the whole school community. Archery was organised for Second, Third, Fifth and Sixth year classes on Monday and Tuesday of active week. The students and teachers really enjoyed this activity as many got to experience archery for the first time. On Wednesday we had some great dancing on display as the First year classes participated in Zumba.
Every day during active week there was a break time challenge and lunchtime activities organised for the students and teachers. Monday we had the limbo challenge and the winner of this challenge was Max Meegan. Tuesday was the skipping challenge and the winner was Darragh Walsh. Wednesday we had a free-throw challenge and the winner was Ciarán Breen. Thursday we had the plank challenge and for this challenge Ben Kelly proved the strongest male participant with an incredible time of 7.05 minutes. The strongest female was Annija Ozolina with another incredible time of 5.05 minutes.
There was great involvement from both the students and teachers during the lunchtime activities with many of the teachers helping to run these activities and also participating in the them. The activities consisted of Table-tennis, Zumba, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), MMA, Badminton and Volleyball. We also had a sugar display for the week where students got to see the amount of sugar in different products that they consume. They were also introduced to the idea of DIY energy drinks. Thank you to the Home Economics department for their fantastic displays.
The feedback from both students and teachers was very positive. Thank you to all who helped run the activities and well done to all the participants.
