Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA)
The LCA programme is designed for students whose learning styles and needs are not fully catered for by the other Leaving Certificate programmes. The main aim of this programme is to prepare students for the transition to the world of work rather than further study. The LCA Coordinator is Ms. Martina Henderson.
Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP)
Developed to provide a balance between the traditional Leaving
Certificate and skills more directly relevant to employment, LCVP
is a very popular strand of senior cycle education today. It comprises
the full Leaving Certificate plus three ‘link modules', Preparation for
work, Enterprise Education and Work Experience.
Transition Year provides a bridge to enable students make the transition from the more dependent type of learning associated with Junior Cycle to the more independent learning environment associated with Senior Cycle. It encourages the development of a wide variety of transferable critical thinking and creative problem solving skills. Transition Year Coordinator is Mr. Luke Maher.
Home School Community Liaison:
A teacher from the staff works full-time to support parents in helping their children to settle in to and benefit from the school system and to prevent early school leaving. The scheme sonsists of a partnership and collaboration of the complimentary skills of parents and teachers. Home visitation is a crucial element in establishing bonds of trust with families. In order to discuss any concerns parents might have, the Home School Community Liaison co-ordinator (Mr. John Murphy) is available throughout the day on 053-9236544 or 053 92 34185 (ext. 4).
